Richard Taney is a Managing Director of Tuatara Capital. At Tuatara, Richard works with the senior partners to source, evaluate and monitor investments across Tuatara’s target areas of focus in the cannabis industry. Richard is also an advisor to a cannabis genetics, agro-tech and hybrid seed start-up based in New York. Prior to joining Tuatara, Mr. Taney was the President and Chief Executive Officer of PalliaTech, Inc.. PalliaTech is a national cannabis company founded in 2009 with the mission of unlocking the therapeutic potential of cannabis. PalliaTech currently produces and dispenses cannabinoid-based medicines in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, Maine, Oregon and Illinois.
Before joining PalliaTech, Richard was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Delcath Systems, Inc., (NASDAQ: DCTH) a medical technology company that developed a patented system for the targeted delivery of ultra-high dose chemotherapy to the liver for treatment of a variety of cancers. Under his leadership, Delcath enrolled a Phase III clinical trial, obtained two Orphan Drug Designations from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and expanded the Company’s activities into China, Europe and Japan.
Prior to leading Delcath, Mr. Taney served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of MGT Capital Investments, Inc. (AMEX: MGT) a medical technology company engaged in the development and commercialization of computer-aided detection applications that analyze computer tomography (CT) scans to assist radiologists in the early detection and measurement of colorectal polyps and lung lesions.
Previously, Mr. Taney was the founding member of T2 Capital Management, LLC, an investment management company, and Sandpiper Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused on companies involved in a variety of emerging technologies. Earlier in his career, Mr. Taney spent over 20 years advising institutional and high net worth clients at Salomon Brothers, Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch and Banc of America Securities. Richard earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University and a Juris Doctor from the Temple University School of Law.
